 Theatrical Experience/Training

Graham Rhodes is a writer and artist with over 35 years experience in painting, print making, graphic design, writing scripts, books, articles, creative outlines and numerous other projects. He began working as an artist in the 1970’s and took part in many exhibitions and galleries through the North of England, however for a many years he stopped painting & drawing, preferring to concentrate his efforts on creating moving images for the corporate world of marketing.

As a graphic designer he has created numerous book jackets for such companies as Octopus Books, St Michael and Allen & Unwin. He has also designed print work and record sleeves for such bands as The Police, Squeeze, The Cramps, The Fall and many other bands.

As a scriptwriter and director he has created concepts, scripts and programs for broadcast television, a/v presentations, computer games, film & video productions, web sites, audio-tape, interactive laser-disc, CD-ROM, animations, conferences, and multi-media presentations. For many years he specialised in writing scripts for major corporate clients within numerous training, corporate, and marketing projects. His knowledge of history helped him create a number of heritage based programmes that can be seen in museums and visitor centres throughout the country. More recently he writes dialogue and story lines for THQ, one of America’s biggest games companies. His words have been spoken by such actors as Chris Barrie; Dame Judy Dench, Michael Williams, Christopher Fairbanks; Timothy Spall; Ian Carmichael, Carol Vordeman; Trevor McDonald; Carol Barnes, Harry Gration and even Richard Whitely.

He has published five books - A Visual History of York: Leeds Visible History: More Poems about Sex 'n Drugs & Rock ‘n Roll : Footprints in the Mud of Time - The Alternative Story of York & The York Sketch Book featuring his own drawings of York.

He's also written a number of stage plays and one musical. His play Chasing the Hard Backed Black Beetle recently won the Saltburn Drama Festival. Other plays have been read at the West Yorkshire Playhouse whilst “Rambling Boy” starring Martin Stephenson played at Newcastle's Live Theatre. Grahams many other plays are regularly performed by Scarborough's Valley Theatre Co.

Graham also performs a unique brand of comedy poetry in rock clubs and other venues and has supported such acts as Roger McGough, John Cooper Clarke, John Otway, The Animals, and Suzi Quatro. He appeared at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival and performed in front of 4,500 bikers where he not only survived but received a standing ovation! For the last four years he has also hosted Scarborough’s Beached gigs.

Now aged 57 he lives in Scarborough and has returned to his artistic roots and first love of landscape painting and writing.
