ENCOURAGING DISABILITY IN THE ARTS

Following an article published in the Drama Association of Wales newsletter (DAWN), we are proposing to encourage our authors to consider disability in the theatre, and to encourage disabled writers to become part of the Playwrights Co-operative. The ideas are embryonic at the moment, and we are actively consulting people with an interest. If you have any views, please email us.

1. Can you write new work specifically for, or to include disabled actor(s)?
2. Can you write new work with roles which could optionally be played by disabled actor(s)?
3. Can you rewrite or adapt any existing works for the above?
4. Are you prepared to accept commissions from disabled groups?
5. Are you prepared to enlist the help of a local drama group to record any of your plays onto cassette tape or CD as a talking script for the visually impaired?

Don't forget that "disabled" doesn't necessarily equate to "in a wheelchair" - there are other disabilities.

We urge any authors who are interested in the above to call Ian Hornby on 0845 129 4916 (local rate), write or email - see the contacts page for addresses.

We are also able to offer scripts in large print format. These will be printed to order on A4, and cost the same as the normal scripts.

If you have ideas or enquiries, please contact us
